Hi all! I’m sure all of us are familiar with the works of William Shakespeare. What some of you may not realize, however, is that there are several modern-day films that are based upon the plots of his works:
- Ten Things I Hate about You
Based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, teenage Kat has practically sworn off of love and boys forever. In order for her boy-crazy younger sister to date, however, Kat must first go on a date with someone– her Father’s rule. The entire movie is centered around the attempted courting of Kat by Pat, who has been hired by her family to court her.
2. She’s the Man
Viola poses as her brother at his boarding school in order that she may continue her soccer career. This plot is based upon the plot of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Hilarity ensues as the characters in the novel find themselves in an unconventional, romantic tangle.
3. A Thousand Acres (I’ve mentioned this on here before)
Based on the plot of King Lear, a dying man divides his estate among his three daughters. The older two daughters have a much different angle than the youngest in both this movie and the Shakespearean play.
So there you have it folks! Next time you see one of these movies, crack open the Shakespearean play behind its meaning in order to gain further insight! Love and light!
